Event
Inauguration of the Jalappa Foundation for Innovation & Incubation
The Foundation was formally inaugurated, and the meeting set its first budget, its recruitment plan and a commitment to at least two events a week.
Sri Rajesh N Jagadale, Trustee of the Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust, presided as chief guest and formally inaugurated the Foundation. He spoke to the alignment of JFII with the vision of the late Sri R L Jalappa, and to the institution’s obligation to turn research into societal benefit.
Dr Kalyani R, Head of the R&D Cell, gave the welcome address. Addresses followed from Sri G H Nagaraja, Sri J Rajendra, Dr Vengamma B, Dr D V L N Prasad, Dr Muninarayana C and Dr Prabhakar K. Dr Ashwini N S closed with the vote of thanks, tracing the journey of JFII to that morning. The ceremony ended with a tour of the incubation space — workstations, benches, lab prototypes and the donation board.
The meeting committed the Foundation to converting societal needs — nutraceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, healthcare technologies — into viable startups, and to holding at least two events a week: skill workshops, hackathons, mentorship clinics and funding awareness sessions.
A five-year budget of ₹10 crore, with a ₹2 crore equipment cap, was to be finalised with the Academic Council by 15 August 2025. The meeting also resolved to seek NIDHI incubator grants of roughly ₹10 lakh per innovator, to apply for Atal and BIRAC support, to benchmark against SRIIC, IIIT-B Electronic City, the Bioinnovation Centre and C-CAMP, and to advertise for a CEO, an operations manager and faculty leads.
