Cultivating a Culture of Innovation
An orientation for undergraduates on innovation and incubation as the groundwork for an innovation culture inside the institution.
The session introduced undergraduates to innovation and incubation as the two pillars of an innovation culture, and to what it takes to sustain one inside a university.
Dr Likith M defined innovation as translating ideas into goods or services that create value, and incubation as the systematic nurturing of early-stage ideas. The lecture covered the contribution of an innovation culture to economic growth and societal change, the part incubation centres play through mentorship, funding and resources, and the ways a higher education institution can cultivate innovation — building incubation centres, running hackathons and workshops, and putting entrepreneurship into the curriculum.
National frameworks were presented, including the National Innovation and Start-up Policy and the Institution’s Innovation Council.
